Leapfrog Lighting announced a sweepstake open to Ottawa, Ontario based retail stores to help demonstrate to businesses the role of LED bulbs in dramatically reducing energy use and costs.

Leapfrog Lighting announced a contest to all Ottawa,Ontario retailers designed to illustrate the significant benefits of LED bulbs in lowering utility costs.

“Most businesses are considering the switch to LED lighting,” said Stephen Naor, CEO of Leapfrog Lighting. “Although the benefits of low power consumption and long bulb life are well known, some businesses delay because of the initial up front costs, some not realizing they might be eligible for rebates. The contest runs until April 15, 2014, entered through a simple web form, with the random draw on April 18. ( No purchase is required, although entrants must be retailers in Ottawa. The winner will be notified on April 20, 2014. Leapfrog Lighting will announce the winner publicly on April 21, 2014. Full contest rules are found on Leapfrog Lighting’s website**.

“LED lights are becoming mainstream, but the bigger concerns for most retailers is quality of light,” said Mr. Naor. “Our contest focuses on the advantages of specification-quality bulbs for retailers, such as Leapfrog Lighting’s PAR 30.” LED bulbs can also use as little as fifteen percent of the energy used by older technologies, Mr. Naor explained. Unlike compact fluorescents(CFLs), they do not contain hazardous materials such as mercury.

In Ontario, it was estimated that various initiatives—including adoption of LED lamps and other conservation technologies—contributed to a drop carbon emissions of 15% since 2009, despite population growth, according to the Sustainable Cities Collective.

With hydro rates rising in many jurisdictions, the lower electricity consumption of LED bulbs — combined with the savings created through less frequent lamp replacements — makes LED bulbs an irresistible business argument.

Leapfrog Lighting’s LED bulbs, best known for optical clarity and quality, also provide negligible degradation of product over the long life time of the bulbs, with a life expectancy of 40,000 operating hours. The PAR 30 bulb, specified in the contest, is Energy Star certified, and eligible for rebates in the Ottawa area.
